What is the legal age to play in casinos in Ontario?
In Ontario, the minimum age to access online and land-based casinos is 19. This age applies to both physical venues and platforms authorized by iGaming Ontario.
No one under this age can open an account or make deposits at regulated sites. Operators verify age during registration to prevent violations.
Difference between land-based and online casinos
Physical venues such as the Niagara Fallsview Casino or Casino Rama follow the same age requirement. The main difference is that online verification is done with uploaded documents.
If you are 19 or older, you can register immediately, but you must complete identity verification before withdrawing.
- Minimum age: 19 years
- Mandatory verification for all new players
- Minors cannot open accounts or place bets
How to verify your age
Most casinos require an official identity document such as a passport or driver's licence. It is also common to submit a recent proof of address.
The process usually takes between 24 and 72 hours and is required before your first withdrawal.
Why age is important
The rule protects minors and ensures that people who play have the legal capacity to manage their funds. Casinos can close accounts if they detect false information.
If you have doubts about your situation, you can contact customer service before registering.
